The World Cup 2022 will take place in Qatar from November 21
to December 18.
A total of 32 teams, including hosts Qatar, have qualified
for the tournament, which will be the first time football’s biggest event takes
place in the Middle East. Lets have a look their amazing stadium:
Stadium
974:
Stadium 974’s innovative design is inspired by Qatar’s
worldwide trade and seafaring. 974 is the international dialling code for
Qatar, as well as the exact number of shipping containers used in construction.
The innovative 40,000-seat venue has a remarkable design and
will be the first fully demountable tournament venue in FIFA World Cup™
history. This sets a new standard in sustainability and introduces bold new
ideas in tournament legacy planning.
A legacy for the community
Located on the shores of the Gulf, located across the water from Doha's dazzling West Bay skyline, Stadium 974 is a spectacular venue for FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ matches. Following the tournament's conclusion, the stadium will make way for a waterfront development for local people to enjoy.
A legacy for the world
As well as providing invaluable infrastructure to sporting
projects far and wide, Stadium 974 also gives global stadium developers and
tournament planners a fine example to follow.
The venue's temporary nature and clever modular design mean
that fewer building materials were required than in traditional stadium
building, which helped to keep construction costs down.
And with other projects reusing the seats, roof and other
components of the arena, parts of the venue will be utilised for years and even
decades to come.
Minimising construction costs and ensuring regular future
use were the key ingredients in making this stadium – and sporting mega-events
– sustainable.
Stadium 974 has created an innovative blueprint that many
others will follow.
Lusail
Stadium:
The 80,000-seat Lusail Stadium will embody Qatar's ambition
and its passion for sharing Arab culture with the world. It is here that the
FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ final will be staged, with billions around the globe
watching on.
The design of this magnificent stadium is inspired by the
interplay of light and shadow that characterises the fanar lantern. Its shape
and façade echo the intricate decorative motifs on bowls, vessels and other art
pieces found across the Arab and Islamic world during the rise of civilisation
in the region.
The venue will become the centrepiece of Lusail – a newly
built, state-of-the-art metropolis, designed specifically with residents’ needs
in mind. Lusail Stadium will write a new page in Qatar's history, while paying
homage to the rich past of the country and region.
Supporting a new vision of city life
Located 15km north of central Doha, Lusail is a pioneer
among cities. Every aspect of its planning, from its tram system and plentiful
green spaces to this sustainability-focused arena, concentrates on human needs
and environmental conservation. The result will be a city where 200,000 people
live in harmony with the environment – and enjoy the legacy of this spectacular
stadium.
Once the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ is over, Lusail Stadium
will be transformed into a community space including schools, shops, cafés,
sporting facilities and health clinics. This multi-purpose community hub will
allow people to find everything they need under one roof – the original roof of
the football stadium.
During the conversion, most of the stadium's 80,000 seats
will be removed and donated to sporting projects, taking this arena's
extraordinary legacy – and a little bit of FIFA World Cup™ history – to
locations around the globe.
Khalifa
International Stadium
In May 2017, Qatar celebrated the reopening of its most beloved stadium with a spectacular inauguration ceremony and by hosting the final of the Emir Cup. To warm up for its FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ fixtures, the stadium has hosted Arabian Gulf Cup and FIFA Club World Cup™ matches, as well as the IAAF World Athletics Championships.
Qatar's most historic stadium & a crucial player for
2022
Built in 1976 in Al Rayyan, Khalifa International Stadium
has long been the cornerstone of the country's sporting tradition – and the
gatekeeper to its promising future. This accomplished 40,000-seat arena already
has an illustrious hosting history, having previously welcomed the Asian Games,
the Arabian Gulf Cup and the AFC Asian Cup, among other events. Over the years
it has become a worthy ambassador for the Middle East, symbolising sporting
excellence in all its forms. For people in Qatar and the region, Khalifa
International Stadium is an old friend, a familiar face which brings
communities together.
Located at the centre of all the 2022 venues, the stadium
will play a pivotal role in this tournament, whose unique geography and
advanced transport systems will make it the best-connected international
football competition ever.
A new look, new technologies & a new legacy
The latest chapters in this veteran arena's history have
seen it help the dazzling Aspire Zone to grow up around it and mature into a
global centre of sporting excellence. In this sporting complex, Qatar's next
generation of talent is being honed at Aspire Academy, close to Aspetar – the world's
leading specialised orthopaedic and sports medicine hospital – and the largest
indoor multi-sport facility in the world.
Khalifa International Stadium's futuristic new neighbours
have become part of this area's fabric, bringing with them bold ambition and a
passionate desire to achieve international development through sporting
innovation. Ideas and technologies generated here in Aspire Zone are already
changing the game – and people's lives – for the better.
The arena itself has also undergone some changes. It now
boasts an ultramodern shape and dual arches that represent continuity and
embracing fans from all over the globe. Inside the stadium, all seating areas
are protected from the elements by a canopy, with further climate control
delivered by advanced cooling technologies.
Attached to the stadium via a walkway is the 3-2-1 Qatar
Olympic and Sports Museum, adding to the appreciation of how this venue
cherishes its past as it creates an exciting future.
Education
City Stadium:
The official completion of Education City Stadium – on 15
June 2020 – was marked with a special TV programme to showcase the third
match-ready FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022™ venue.
An amazing experience for fans & a bright future for
football
The landscape around Education City Stadium is dotted with
leading universities, where cutting-edge research is conducted, and academics
inspire their students to be at their best. This whole area, the home of Qatar
Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, buzzes with
invention and a determination to make the FIFA World Cup 2022™ a catalyst for
social and human development.
The stadium’s most direct contribution to international
development will come after it has hosted matches through to the quarter-finals
stage of the tournament. The arena's capacity will be reduced by half and
20,000 seats will be donated to build stadiums in developing countries, helping
cultivate a passion for the game around the globe.
